Chainsaw Man

0. The Rules of the World

In this world, Devils are real. They are born from human fears. A "Tomato Devil" is weak because no one fears tomatoes. But a "Gun Devil" or "Darkness Devil" possesses god-like power because their names invoke primal terror. Devil Hunters are those who hunt them. They contract with devils, trading their lifespan or body parts for power.

Part 1: The Public Safety Saga

1. The Bottom of the Barrel Denji’s life was garbage. To pay off his dead father’s debt to the Yakuza, he sold his kidney, his eye, and even a testicle. His only friend was Pochita, a small chainsaw devil. Denji’s dream was simple: To eat toast with jam and hug a girl. But the Yakuza betrayed him. He was chopped into pieces and thrown into a dumpster. In that moment, Pochita became Denji’s heart. Denji was reborn as Chainsaw Man. After slaughtering the zombies, he met Makima, a Public Safety Devil Hunter.

"Will you die as a devil? Or will you be my pet?" Denji fell in love instantly. He happily chose to be her dog.

2. Public Safety Special Division 4 Denji joined a squad of misfits.

  • Aki Hayakawa: A senior hunter obsessed with revenge against the Gun Devil.

  • Power: A lying, violent Fiend who never flushes the toilet. Living together, this dysfunctional trio slowly became a family. Denji finally achieved his dream of touching boobs, only to realize that physical pleasure without connection felt empty.

3. The Era of Loss: Reze and the Bomb Girl Peace didn't last. The "Samurai Sword" attacked, killing Denji’s mentor Himeno. Later, Denji met a girl named Reze at a cafe. They shared a sweet romance, but she was the Bomb Devil, a Soviet spy sent to steal his heart (literally). Denji fought her, but still wanted to run away with her. Reze, moved by his sincerity, tried to return to him. But in a dark alley, Makima intercepted her. Reze never showed up. Denji waited at the cafe until closing time, never knowing she was dead.

4. Hell and the Gun Devil International assassins targeted Denji. The chaos dragged everyone to Hell, where they faced the Darkness Devil. They barely survived, but Aki was traumatized. He decided to give up revenge to protect Denji and Power. But Makima forced Aki into the operation to kill the Gun Devil. The Twist: The Gun Devil was already defeated years ago. Its pieces were held by nations like nuclear warheads. This operation was a lie. The US President, fearing Makima, summoned the Gun Devil to kill her. Makima survived and shoved the Gun Devil into Aki’s corpse, turning him into the Gun Fiend. Denji had to kill Aki—his big brother—while Aki hallucinated about a snowball fight.

5. The Climax: The Control Devil Denji, broken by guilt, went to Makima for comfort. She opened the door. Power stood there with a birthday cake. Bang. Makima blew Power’s torso apart. Makima revealed herself as the Control Devil, one of the Four Horsemen. Her goal was to use Chainsaw Man to create a "better world." To control him, she needed to break his contract with Pochita by destroying his happiness. She gave him a family just to kill them in front of him. The Final Meal: Denji couldn't beat her with hate. So he used "Love." He ambushed her, cut her up, and cooked her into a ginger pork meal.

"I will become one with you." He ate every last bite of Makima. This was the only way to bypass her immortality.

Part 2: The Academy Saga

1. The War Devil and the Outcast It is 1999. Asa Mitaka, a lonely high school girl, hates Chainsaw Man. After being killed, she is revived by Yoru (The War Devil), Makima’s sister. Yoru wants to make powerful weapons to kill Chainsaw Man. Asa and Yoru share one body.

2. Denji’s New Life Denji is now a high schooler raising Nayuta (the reincarnation of the Control Devil). He is desperate to reveal his identity so girls will like him. Asa joins the Devil Hunter Club to find Chainsaw Man, unknowingly befriending the very target she needs to kill.

3. The Prophecy and The Famine Devil Kiga (Famine Devil), the older sister of War and Control, reveals her plan. She wants to stop the Death Devil, the King of Terror prophesied by Nostradamus to arrive in July 1999. To do this, she starves the world of hope to empower Chainsaw Man and War.

4. The Current Catastrophe (Jan 2026 Status) Kiga creates the "Chainsaw Man Church," causing global chaos. Public Safety burns down Denji’s apartment. His pets—the only family he had left—burn to death. Nayuta is missing. Denji snaps. Breaking his promise, he transforms into Chainsaw Man. He slaughters the enemies in a blind rage but is captured by Public Safety, who plan to disassemble him. Asa, realizing her feelings, raids the facility to save Denji. The stage is set for the final battle against Death.

The Unsolved Mysteries (The Hooks)

  • The Death Devil: The strongest of the Four Horsemen has yet to appear.

  • Pochita’s True Identity: Devils in Hell hear an engine sound before they die. Pochita is not just a Chainsaw Devil; he is the "Hero of Hell" who erases the existence of devils he eats.

  • Power’s Promise: Before dying, Power made a contract with Denji: "Find the Blood Devil and turn it back into Power." Denji hasn't fulfilled this yet.

Final Analysis: A Love Story about Cannibalism

The twist of Part 1 is legendary: "The woman who saved me was the one who broke me." And the resolution was even crazier: "I loved her so much, I ate her."

Chainsaw Man is a story about hunger. Hunger for food, for family, and for love. Even in Part 2, Denji is still starving for connection, stumbling through a world that wants to consume him. Will he ever find a happiness that doesn't taste like blood?
